Some years back, a number of the engineers I knew, were concerned about being replaced by engineers being brought in from other countries.

It was similar to nurses who were concerned about the same thing in their profession, at that time.

However, it was not so easily cut and dry, at least to me, since I was already working with a number of engineers who were hired from other countries.

The ones that I worked with were for the most part very much the same as the home-grown, perhaps to the credit of the company's HR hiring practices.

However, was there not rhetoric about the eventual problems if more engineers were not hired from outside the US?

Which sounded similar to the rhetoric for "needing illegal immigrants", asking "who will pick our fruits, cut our lawns, wait on our tables, do all the dirty hard jobs?", etc.

Well, when I was a young teenager (and even before), I gladly did any, and all those kinds of jobs (except fruit picking wasn't available in our area), and so did others my age.

I cut lot's of grass, raked leaves, and shoveled snow wherever I could, and others my age were doing the same.

I also spent lots of hours as a busboy and dishwasher, and then even later as a waiter; so also did others my age.

I worked janitorial work, sweeping parking lots, and other jobs involving very filthy and odorous areas, sometimes with a pick and shovel; so also did others my age.

None of us were looking forward for others to come to the country to do the work that we were more than happy to do, in order to take away our chances to work for pay.

Then years later, it was the same for the engineering job, even if involving 90 hour weeks for months on end, in very dirty refineries, up high, or in close spaces, or outside for hours in the rain or freezing cold.

None were looking forward to having many new engineers coming from other countries to take the jobs, possibly for lower pay.

Sadly, I guess that I'm stating political heresy against Daddy Warbucks, Mr. Musk.
