"Why do we so desperately want to see what the Father looks like?"

(Why do we so desperately want to see what the Father looks like?)

John 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

(We’re just like Philip, if we could just see the Father, that would suffice us.

However, that absolutely is not of faith.

The Father can only be known by faith, as the Son reveals him to us, from his word.

But the reason we “identify” with pictures of the Father, even if only in our minds, is because we are like the children of Israel:)

Deuteronomy 4:12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

(But, what did they immediately do when Moses delayed to come down from the mount?

They made an image, to satisfy their desire to see what God looked like – except he doesn’t look like a golden calf.)

(However, I could be wrong, here, but I think that we are a special creation, in the LORD’s own image and likeness.

So, that only we, and then only when we are born again, can really know the Father, and to have fellowship with him.)

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

I John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

(That begins when we are saved, but will have its perfect fulfillment in the new Jerusalem.)

(However, a case could be made by the following, if taken only by itself, that in addition to the seeing the Son, these also see the Father:)

Matthew 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

(Again, taken by itself, its open and shut, case closed! Except, it may not be so open and shut.

The knowledge of the glory of the Father is in the face of the Son, Jesus Christ:)

II Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

(That glory of the Father will lighten the new Jerusalem, however, the light is the Son, Jesus Christ, the Lamb:)

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
