I've heard recent renditions of the following:

Isaiah 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:

  12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

Line 11, when they have said, "I can't understand all them thee's and thou's".

And line 12, when they said, "I don't know Greek " and "I don't know Hebrew".

Both of these claims are really copout excuses.

Even lost people use phrases like, "Thou shalt not …", and they know what that means.

I don't remember any writing of Paul where he tells Gentiles that they need to know Hebrew in order to understand the Bible.

When I neglect to read or study the scriptures, it is because of sin and my giving in to my flesh.

Then that leads to more sin, in a spiral.

It is too easy for me to make excuses for my not reading and studying the scriptures.
