“ The Biblical 70 Year Generation”

James:   The Knesset was formed on February 14, 1949, not December 26, 1949.   See www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org

The citation states: The Knesset took its name and fixed its membership at 120 from the Knesset Hagedolah (Great Assembly), the representative Jewish council convened in Jerusalem by Ezra and Nehemiah in the 5th century B.C.E.  The modern Israeli Knesset convened for the first time ever on February 14, 1949, following the elections from January of that same year. This inaugural sitting succeeded the provisional government that had functioned as the Jewish community's parliament during the Mandate era and first few months of the state.”

I agree with you that the 70-year period should be “in play” based on the Fig Tree Parable of Matthew 24:32-35.  The fig tree is clearly the unbelieving nation of Israel in the end time.  Another Fig Tree Parable from Luke 13:6-9 makes this a virtual certainty.   So, the sign of the time of the end is the return of the unbelieving nation of Israel.  That began formally on May 14, 1948 and arguably continued in its formation process through 1950.  I have struggled to find facts in 1950 to support a 70-year view [2020] of likely prophetic events.

I want to encourage you.  I may have found one.  Isaiah 11:11-12 and Ezekiel 20:34 speak about the nation of Israel “the second time [God] recovers the remnant of his people”) and “will gather [his people] out of the countries wherein ye are scattered”. (Isaiah 49:8)  These two OT prophets and the Apostle Paul (Romans 9-11) speak about this end time regathering event.

In Matthew’s chapter 24 parable, Jesus speaks about the the fig tree which had been “cut down” (Luke 13:9, 3:8-9).  So, we know in Matthew 24 the fig tree has sprouted up from its roots in Israel.  The scattered Jewish remnant had survived 1,900 years in exile as a race of people with no homeland. Beginning in 1898 with Theodore Herzl’s Zionist movement, then the Balfour Declaration in 1917, the 1947 U.N. Resolution to create a Jewish State in Palestine, the Jewish state was born on May 14, 1948.   I surmise a three stage event: (1) Declaration of Independence 1948, (2) War of Independence won 1949 (following Joshua’s example after entering the Promised Land) and, thanks to you, possibly (3) the Law of Return in 1950.  So, we see Divine perfection in these three end time events.  God is perfect!!  The window of the 70-year hypothesis for Daniel’s 70th week [and a Pre-Trib harpazo] appears probable over this period 1948-1950 to 2018-2020.   We shall see!

The Law of Return was formalized by the Knesset on July 5, 1950.  This law was chosen on this date to honor Theordore Hertzl.  Hertzl had passed away on July 5.  The law stated that “Every Jew has the right to come [to Israel] as an oleh, or immigrant.

This Law of Return is significant because this enabled Jews to come from the “four corners of the earth” (Isaiah 11:12 terminology) wherein they had been scattered following  their rejection of Messiah Yeshua, Israel’s Messiah at His first advent, Messiah ben Joseph, the suffering servant.  He will be Messiah ben David, the Lion of Judah at His Second Advent. (Revelation 22:16; Genesis 22:16-18 and of course the 22,016th verse in the Bible, Daniel 9:27!)

These Jews who came to Israel following the 1950 law can be likened to the “leaves on the fig tree” to quote H.A. Ironside in his Matthew 24 commentary.  Jews continue to come to Israel today.  The fig tree continues “to put forth leaves”. (Matthew 24:32)   Still no national fruit, but individual fruit as Jews and Gentiles find Jesus.  The national fruit will come during Daniel’s 70th week.  Paul informs us that “a remnant shall be saved”. (Romans 9:27; Isaiah 10:21-23)  The national salvation of Israel will be when she corporately recognizes Yeshua as Messiah.  THIS IS THE FRUIT.

From man’s perspective, God is rarely on time, but He is never late.  Will 2020 be THE YEAR.  God is longsuffering that none should perish, but He has drop dead dates. (Genesis 7:16; Daniel 9:27; Psalm 95:7-8; 2 Corinthians 6:2; and many more.

I have written extensively on these and other subjects in my book titled: The Day of Thy Visitation: The Time of Jacob’s Trouble.
