Sack cloth represents repentance, mourning, humbleness and austerity. You will see the scriptural examples in the article in the 2nd link. So, the two witnesses are in mourning for Jerusalem. They are stressing the absolute need for people to repent...properly. They are telling people to forget about money and riches (austerity). WOW, Gino. It's the first time I have thought in-depth about the message of the two witnesses. I always thought they were spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. Which is absolutely true, but it has so much more depth. The symbolism of mourning. Jerusalem has been ransacked and millions have died. This has happened because people have not repented. They think more about earthly riches and have not realised, fully, that they need to humble themselves and repent. Perhaps a great deception has been spread via fake news (not hard to believe) and people are still confused.
The two witnesses do their hard slog of a job for 3.5 years. 42 months. 1,260 days. The same amount of time that "the woman" is hidden and protected. So, the two witnesses are witnessing to the unbelievers. A very hostile bunch. The 2 witnesses are "tolerated"for 3.5 years but remaining people on earth celebrate when they die! Dishing out gifts and partying. This does make me question if the remaining people,on earth during this time, are Neanderthal like?? Seriously - are they stupid? Or just spiritually null and void?
After 3.5 days of lying dead on the street, the 2 witnesses are visibly taken up to heaven. People are pretty gob-smacked. Leading to a number of people seeing and absorbing the truth. Does this draw in the final tally of believers?
