What an interesting question. Your post linked below. The 2nd link holds an article I believe you will find fascinating. It's from a Catholic oriented website but is very, very interesting. Answering a lot of questions that ring true.
As Jesus departed this earth, in a flesh and bone body (albeit immortal), the two heavenly witnesses were Moses and Elijah. They informed the startled disciples that LORD Jesus would return the same way He departed. Holding onto Biblical consistency, I believe it will be Moses and Elijah who are there at our LORD's return. The 2nd link holds a very intriguing thought regarding Elijah. Remember - Jesus said that Elijah had come before Him but nobody recognised him. John the Baptist was that Elijah that Jesus spoke of. So - "Elijah" takes on different identities?? I am convinced that this is what we are being told.
As John was told he would have to prophesy to many more people and nations (Well done, Gino - I had never given this much thought until you astutely questioned this), perhaps John WILL assume the role of Elijah at our LORD's return. My instinct (and guess, according to scripture)n is that John will resurrect into his body at Jesus' return. He will prophesy and teach during the great Trib. Currently, I believe that John is part of the heavenly court. It's fascinating to picture Moses and Elijah being the two witnesses at the end.
Anyway - brain scrambled now. Thank you, Gino, for making us really think about these things. A sign of the end times we are living in.
Maranatha, LORD Jesus.
