Your article speaks of population decline in Japan because the social structure promoting marriage has collapsed.  And that this could come to America.  (Well, not so far, with an army of unwed mothers populating OUR country).

This is a tragic horrible story.  If Christianity really took off in Japan, young people might meet at church or fellowships, and eventually marry.  But if housing costs keep going up and wages do not, how will young men support wives to stay at home with children?  Can't do it!

We will soon be in a similar position in America, where people cannot afford to have a wives at home with their children.  Are we there already, and this is one reason that around 45% of babies are now born to single mothers?  The mothers live off of welfare and whatever they can scrounge from relatives and from the fathers of their children--the fathers can't support the mothers and their children.  Often the fathers are "around" somewhere, but afraid to marry the mothers, part of the reason being economic fear.  Fear to commit because of economic hardship.

My husband's grandsons have feared to commit, but they have produced two of their own children with women they will not marry.

But they have been "present" in the lives of their girlfriends and their children...that is, although they won't marry the girls, they have been supportive (even financially) of the children.  They just fear the firm economic commitment of marriage.  And with good reason.  They are only just now getting to a state of economic well-being, in their

late thirties.  And now they are going to get married...one to a woman other than the mother of his child, and one to the mother of his child.  This is now considered normal behavior for college educated men.  This is the new normal.  So children are still being produced in America, but in a new way, not the Japanese way. The Japanese way is just to not have children at all.

And with Fukishima raging, yes, that may be best after all.  No more children.  Just video game imaginary romances and pornography.  End of civilization.
