David,
Sorry that I wasn’t clear, and was even confusing.
It simply was a thought that I had when I was reading what you wrote.
Since I’ve been saved, whenever I saw or heard the word church, what did I think of?
Most of my Christian life, I was taught, directly or indirectly, to always think of the entire collection of Christian believers, from Pentecost to the blessed hope.
I had realized when reading what you wrote, that the entire collection of Christian believers cannot do things collectively (at least not now).
We don’t worship collectively, we don’t have the Lord’s supper collectively, we cannot all collectively be in one place and in one accord.
Was Paul collectively rebuking all of us in I Corinthians?
No, I don’t think that he was - however, if and when the shoe fits, I should wear it - there are some rebukes that do, or at least have, applied to me.
By always thinking full-collective, I miss out on all the admonitions & edifications that I and the fellow believers that I go to church with, could have.
We as a body of believers maybe could be commended when other bodies are rebuked, and we rebuked while others commended.
That can’t happen as a body if all thought and communication is always and only collective of all believers of the entire church age.
I was excited by the thought & decided to springboard into what I wrote, that’s all.
As to your other point, after looking at that definition, I see what you are talking about.
I would agree with you that this has come into our churches.
This has replaced the gospel and the great commission.
And I don’t think that you were advocating “Lone Ranger” Christians, either, so your point was well made.
Thank you,
Gino
