"Mary Haas (8 Jan 2013)  worthy"

Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Just a question for you Mary

Who was Jesus referring to when He told them to watch and pray,......... believers or unbelievers?

Why would He ask believers to pray that they would be "accounted" worthy to escape if they were "accounted" worthy to escape just by the fact that they are believers?

If He was referring to unbelievers, just how is it that unbelievers would pray to someone they do not even believe in and by doing so would be "accounted" worthy to escape?

There just has to be more to these words of Jesus in Luke 21:36.

Mary, IMHO the key word here is "accounted". I agree with you that none of us are worthy but we can by the Blood of Jesus be not only be saved eternally but we can also be accounted worthy to escape the fires that will be set "that the trial of your faith being much more precious than gold that perishes may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the appearing of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:7
You and I both know that there are many Christians out there who every day pray to walk in a deeper communion with the Savior and study His precious word every day and long for His soon coming. You and I also know there are a lot of Sunday morning Christians out there that are precious in His sight but He wants those children of His to "buy of Me gold tried in the fire that thou mayest be rich and white raiment that thou mayest be clothed and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear..................As many as I love I rebuke and chasten.......Rev3:18,19

Are there some of us that are about to be rebuked and chastened? I quite honestly do not know.

"And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, these are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. "(Rev. 7:13, 14)

Mary, are these the Sunday go to meeting Christians that needed to buy of Him Gold tried in the fire and white linen that their nakedness do not appear? I do not know but I speculate a little. One thing that I do know is that no matter how my own children serve me or ignore me they are still mine and I will never stop loving them. Some of them had to have a little more discipline than others in order to become responsible citizens of whatever community they end up in. I kind of suspect that God is not much different of a Father as far as what it takes to make us all responsible citizens of His eternal community. Some of us require a little more attention to the seat of our pants than others. A loving Father would see to it that that correction is applied.

Your Brother in Christ Jesus. See you soon in the sky
