Hi Steve. My response below to your comment: "I hope I've made my point. God help anyone (and He won't) who rejects the Law of Christ and trusts in the unbiblical fantasies of James Paul DeYoung."----------------------------------------------------------------------The author of THE SHACK is actually William P. Young who you correctly identify as a writer of "unbiblical fantasies." James (B.) De Young, mistakenly named above...easy to do...is the author of BURNING DOWN THE SHACK which offers an effective rebuttal to THE SHACK. Only a bookworm like myself would probably catch that. Wanted to post correction just in case people make the mistake of rejecting De Young's excellent book as the names are similar. I ended up ordering through WND because no Christian bookseller was carrying at the time and those that did provided an annoying disclaimer. Part of dumbing down the church IMHO.
"Churches have failed, he said, to teach the meaning of biblical inspiration and the authority of Scripture, so "people begin to form their own doctrinal positions and beliefs based upon not only the teaching of Scripture but other things they hear elsewhere." The great need in the American church today, he said, "is for renewal, and that will include a significant return to the authority of Scripture." http://redeemedhippiesplace.wordpress.com/2010/07/23/the-one-book-christian-bookstores-do-not-want/
- "It's often said that one can understand a book better by knowing the author," De Young offers in "Burning Down 'The Shack'" which he wrote to "expose the greatest deception to blindside the church in the last 200 years!"
"De Young isn't only a New Testament Language and Literature professor at Western Seminary in Portland, Ore., he holds multiple degrees from respected seminaries including Dallas Seminary, Talbot Theological Seminary and Moody Bible Institute. In addition, and possibly most important, DeYoung is a former longtime colleague of Paul Young, and was his Portland-area neighbor when Young wrote "The Shack." http://politicalpistachio.blogspot.com/2010/07/burning-down-shack-on-political.htmlBlessings!
