My pastor has a lot to say about mystery Babylon. He points out that in Revelation 17, where it says that woman that you saw IS that great city… He says IS is in the present tense, so it has to be a city that existed at the time the Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation (So your idea of Jerusalem could fit here). He also says that the city of seven hills was what Rome was called in places outside biblical sources. Also that the woman is drunk with the blood of the martyrs and the saints. Who outside of the Catholic church is responsible for more killings of Christians? He also says that Islam was created by the Catholic church. And Islam has killed many Christians also, and is a daughter of the Mother of all harlots.

This pastor in Ireland had a great series on this same topic. I started it out at the Whore of Babylon identification, but the whole series is most excellent. Lots of great history. Most interesting to me was how the royal buildings from Constantine in Rome were given to the Catholic Church, when Constantine moved the capital to Istambul/Constantinople. You said, “It says the woman sits on the seven heads/seven mountains - this is not Rome or a 'city sitting on seven hills'; this is a conglomerate of leaders over peoples.” This pastor talks about this also.
