Thanks Derrick, Mike P., and Gino for your replies. Gino came the closest to answering the question, which was simply, “weren’t the Angels eternally secure?”
The answer is yes, they were and still are, IF they remain in their unrebellious state. The reason Jesus didn’t die for their sins, is because they were already secure. If Salvation is to be saved from the fires of Hell(and that’s exactly what it is), then there was no reason for Jesus to die for them. Also this brings Hebrews 6:4-6 into clearer view in my opinion. For the angels have clearly tasted all things heavenly, but yet some still gave it up.
So it appears that angels, like us, will also be judged according to the word of God, not just us. Also the Bible says we will judge angels someday which is hard to even imagine.
Still Jesus in Luke 18:8, said he wonders if he will find faith when he returns. This is a seemingly disjointed point from the rest of the text. Of course we know all scripture is important and stands on its own. Jesus knows the answer to all of his questions.
I look at this and wonder however, how many are turning from the faith even and especially now that we are on the doorstep of his return. How many in the church who proclaim to be Christians, but aren’t looking for his return at all, but instead play the role of the scoffer far more than even some who are publicly against God.
For the record, I believe in eternal security, because of the ⅔ of the angels who DIDN'T rebel. But just as I believe one can keep their salvation and we can see clearly how this is accomplished in the whole of scripture, I also think some will lose it, not as one loses a set of car keys, but because they choose against it, just as ⅓ of the angels did.
Also there is another way to look at this. Haven’t the millions or billions already in Hell chosen to be there by their choice? Since God wants all to come to salvation, but most wont, what does it matter that we argue if anyone can “lose their salvation” or not?
If you are secure, be secure. With God's help we CAN be secure, and certainly without his help we can’t. But In the end it will only matter, what We did with the gospel and whether we made it accessible to as many as we could.
In the very end in Revelation 14:7 when the gospel angel preaches for the last time. We see an amazing merciful God still holding out his way of Salvation even to those who have rejected him the entire last tribulation period. Even after seeing his power on display time and time again. The reality is, they would rather believe a lie, just as many do now.
Have all these people who won’t accept the only way to heaven lost something they never had? I would submit to you it doesn’t matter. But anyone who neglects so great a Salvation deserves what they get and what they won’t get, because there will be no excuse.
