For years, I had heard, read, and was taught, that the three main races of the world, came directly as Noah's sons were.

i.e. that Ham looked African, that Shem looked oriental, and that Japheth looked European.

Granted, everyone on earth came from one of these three brothers.

But did Noah's three sons look that different from each other?

If it was the way I was taught, then I reckon that Noah's wife had some serious explaining to do!

The pastor that I had, while I lived and worked on the island of St Croix, presented a different teaching that I had not heard before that.

He, himself, was of African background, but he doesn't think that Ham necessarily looked like that.

Rather, he taught that as a result of the judgment at Babel, when the tongues were confounded, that the greater physical differences also came about.

He taught that right after the judgment, people would naturally come together with other people who spoke and looked like them.

Also, that because the LORD's plan was for them to go out and live in the various parts of the world.

Most people were not fit to go to the arctic and live, but somehow the Eskimos were.

Similarly, not everyone was fit to live in desert climates, or in rain forests, but some were.

He taught that the LORD brought about those differences, like he did the languages, so that they would not all stay together, but go out into the world.

Has anyone else ever heard that teaching, or a similar teaching?
