Amazing article from Israel 365, linking these two festivals together. Perhaps somebody has already noted this but it's pretty new to me that when Israel was established in 1948, elections were meant to take place in October of that year. Due to the War of Independence, elections were postponed until November 1948 - only to get postponed again until January 25th, 1949. This happened to be 15th Shevat - the New Year for Trees. Tu B' Shevat !!!
