"Christ our
"Continual" Sabbath"
In the Old Testament - The Sabbath was God's requirement for
both The Land and the Nation of Israel to receive REST from
their work to worship God and enjoy His provision, be refreshed
and restored but also as a witness to the surrounding Nations of
God's ways and how He cares for what and those who belong to
Him. God was teaching them to trust that when their worked
stopped -That He had and would continue to provide for them.
They then could use the time to focus on Him, enjoy His goodness
and celebrate with each other.
For the Land - It was a 1 year rest after six years of being
worked.
For the People - It was 1 day rest after six days of their work.
In the New Testament - Christ Jesus NOW becomes our Sabbath rest
"continually" (not just 1 day) but forever. We NOW are to cease
from all of our works not just once a week but are to learn to
trust in His provision at all times. We NOW are to live by FAITH
not by sight and not rely upon our own works or understanding.
We are NOW to focus on Him and celebrate His goodness with each
other continually. Why ? Because in Christ we are to remain at
rest continually (cease from our work) to serve Him only as a
witness to the unbelievers that God means what He says, His
promises are true and that He will provide for all of our needs
if we belong to Him.
God's ways and our ways are NOT the same. If you are NOW Born
Again into God's Family through Jesus Christ your life NOW is to
be a life of Faith, trusting in the "finished work" of Jesus,
obeying His teachings and "Resting" in the promise that He is
our Sabbath and all that it implies (it's benefits) to Those who
enter into HIS REST - NOW.
When God Rested on the seventh day from His work - that "day"
was considered "Holy" unto God who is HOLY-Holy-Holy.
Our rest in Christ, our Sabbath, is to be continually Holy unto
God by abiding in Christ Jesus at all times and not just once a
week but in continual service unto God. This is NOW our REST and
also our witness of God's WAY of FAITH - receiving all His
provision Not by the work of men but by the FINISHED work of
Christ Jesus - who is LORD of all.
For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why
it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
