The Lord said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” [John 11:25:26]
In the above verse the Lord is referring to what will happen to two groups of people on First-fruits, the Day of the Messiah. All those who have died, before that Day, believing in the Lord, will be resurrected. And all those of us who are still alive, and are believing in Lord, will never die. This is because we're going to be changed, in an instant, from physical beings into glorified ones.
"For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." [1Thess.4:15-17]
We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ when we acknowledge and confess Him as our Lord and God!
"And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” [John 20:28,29]
The blessing the Lord is speaking of is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit!
For we read,"...no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit." [1 Cor. 12:3]
The job of the Holy Spirit is to empower us to live fruitful lives, in preparation for the Day of the redemption of our bodies.
"...do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the Day of redemption." [Eph.4:30]
It's important we understand exactly how the Holy Spirit gets us ready, so we can co-operate with Him much more easily. The first thing the Holy Spirit does when He starts dwelling in us is to give us a deep hunger and thirst for the Word of God. For it's only through the Word that we learn how to love our God and Savior Jesus Christ and the neighbor as ourselves. The entire Word, from Genesis to Revelation, exists for this purpose.
“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” [Matt.22:37-40]
These two commandments operate in our lives as one within the other. The first commandment exists within the second commandment. For when we love the neighbor, we're loving the Lord Jesus Christ at the same time. This is how the Lord, through the power of His Holy Spirit, changes us into an image of Himself day by day!
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day." [2 Cor.4:16]
The Lord Jesus Christ, now in His glorified body, is essentially the love of God in a human form. It's from this human form that we're now receiving the Holy Spirit! This has been made possible since the Day of First-fruits, when the Lord's body was fully glorified.
For the Apostle John wrote:
"But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." [John 7:39]
Notice what the Lord said to the Apostles, after receiving His glorified body on First-fruits:
“Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit." [John 20:21,22]
Ever since that Day all those of us, who acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Lord and God have the breath of God flowing into our spiritual lungs. And are also continuously receiving His Holy Spirit into our souls. As a consequence, we now have the God-given power to love the Lord and the neighbor as ourselves. This is why now, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we're being led first to diligently store up fruit within our souls. For this is the requisite for the redemption of our bodies on First-fruits, when the Lord Comes.
That's why we're taught to:
"...Walk as children of light for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth." [Eph.5:8,9]
And to not forget that:
"...we also who have the First-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body." [Rom.8:23]
