Matthew 14:28 A study in Hebrews
“tell me to come to you on the water.”
I am in awe of the discernment demonstrated by those who search out the significance of events hidden in Bible codes. It magnifies God as truly omnipotent in his power and glory and reminds me that the deep things of God can only be known through revelation. Matthew 16:17 Blessed are you...for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood but by my father who is in heaven. Human efforts can never uncover the majesty and righteousness of God in either works or deeds, it must be done by god, revealed by God in us.

With that in mind I ask that you cast your spiritual discernment over something that struck me some years ago. It was while I was reading the letter to the Hebrews that a link was beginning to manifest which had echoes throughout scripture. It goes something like this.

The story of Noah is a shadow of things to come Water is the method by which God Judges the earth and this judgement revealed death to all apart those who were the water crossers. (Noah's Ark) Water or death was the righteous judgement from God on all life because of sin. Interestingly all life still dies so do the flood waters remain, is God's judgement still effective on sin today ? As a symbol I would say yes.

Reference to the word and God of the Hebrews begins in the story of Abraham where he is told by God to leave the land in which he was born and cross the river Euphrates.

Abraham, the first Hebrew

"Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." - Genesis 12
It was through Abraham's descendants (the Hebrews) that God's plan for salvation would be revealed.

Abraham was called the first "Hebrew" which probably means "to cross over" because he was supposedly so foolish for thinking that there was just one God and if he crosses over the Euphrates river that he would find this new land that God had promised. But it was with Abraham that God established His covenant. (www. Bible-History.com)
The next passing-over or water-crossing-over of great significance is that of the exodus. Here we see the Hebrews (water-crossers), crossing the red sea. The story tells us that the escaping Hebrews crossed over/passed through death (waters) which allowed them to exit on dry land (life) Moses as a baby is floated in a basket (ark), to save him, from death (Water) His name translates as saved from water (Death) The following Egyptians were swallowed up in death (water) but the Hebrews passed through death to life. I think now we should begin to see the ultimate Hebrew foreshadowed, with a whole mixed multitude following.

Next we see the Hebrews entering the promised land and again time to repeat the imagery. This time the Jordan river has to be miraculously crossed and the waters piled up (Joshua 3-4) for the miraculous account and the twelve stones.

In case we missed its significance lets see the story played out again with new characters and the sign of Jonah Jesus himself makes us look to see him in this story. (Luke 11:29-32, Matt 12:40) In order to placate God's wrath Jonah is thrown into the waters (To his death) The waters calm signifying God's judgement is satisfied. In death Jonah is carried in a sea creature made for the purpose of saving Jonah when swallowed up in death. After 3 days Jonah is spat out onto dry land (Life). God's salvation once again made manifest in the life of the Hebrew Jonah.

Lets bring it forward to the occasion when water is used to demonstrate its significance, that of Jesus baptism, or indeed any believers/Hebrews baptism. Jesus is submerged into water (death) and it is upon his rising from the water (raised to life) that God declares him his son in whom he is pleased.

As God has repeated this story again and again, all through history, as recorded in the Bible, I think we are seriously meant to learn something about his plan as the God of the Hebrews.. the water crossers.

Let us look at Matt14 22-33 Jesus walks on the water. By now it should be apparent at its significance. Jesus never performs flashy miracles unless there is real revelation to be gained. What is Jesus revealing...well I suggest that he is saying he is going to cross over death. If the apostles had understood the significance of their own Hebrew history and water they would have understood its significance. In a moment of confused understanding they thought that Jesus might be a spirit from the dead and the apostles are fearful. Interestingly it was when Jesus crossed the water that he encountered tombs and demoniacs which he healed

So as a general principal taught. Water= death, dry land=life, a Hebrew is a water crosser/death crosser
While I might continue with this study I think time has arrived for a final question for those who understand the significance of codes in the bible. Before I retired from teaching I was struck by a passage in a school text book which had been interpreted in such a way as to explain it to students. This passage was the creation story THE THIRD DAY

9 Then God said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"

Now in the school text book it was translated as such 'That on the third day god made the dry land to come up out of the waters', therefore, on the third day god commanded life to rise from death. The possibility that the 7 day creation story might be also a story of God's plan of salvation given and hidden in Genesis 1 at the very start.

If any of you fine Bible scholars and code breakers could look at the above connection and see where you are led by the lord I would be grateful. I have never used Strong's concordance and am no mathematician and would ask your insights. I have only trusted in the leading of the Spirit but am fully aware that I can be wrong. Jeremiah 17:9 The heart (soul) is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Having said that I put it out there in faith
