Both sides wait in anticipation of an American "framework" proposal that would allow the negotiations to continue.

Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat is calling on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to prepare Israeli public opinion for some of the concessions that his government will need to make in order to reach a final-status agreement.

"I want Netanyahu to face his people and prepare them for what will be needed," Erekat is quoted as saying. "He needs to say, '1967'. I haven't seen any leader prepare Israeli public opinion."

There has been intensified media discussion in recent days as both sides wait in anticipation of an American "framework" proposal that would allow the negotiations to continue beyond the originally allotted nine-month period.
