The words ( The Elect ) is mentioned 4 times in the KJV

Mark 13:22
For FALSE CHRISTS and FALSE PROPHETS [shall] arise, and SHOW [SIGNS] AND [WONDERS,] (TO SEDUCE,)
[if it were possible, ] even THE ELECT.

This verse spells out that the very elect [might] fall prey to some of these.
Understanding this, we should even more so "pray" and always stand behind God's Word. It will Guard us, (If) we remain in it.

Colossians 3:12, 13
Put [on] therefore, as THE ELECT of God, holy and beloved,
  1. BOWELS OF MERCIES,
  2. KINDNESS,
  3. HUMBLENESS OF MIND,
  4. MEEKNESS,
  5. LONGSUFFERING (;)
5 is representative of the Kingdom of God

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any(:) even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
These are THE GOSPELS OF "PEACE" we are to uphold, not War.
In [these] we follow Christ, even when we battle The Powers of Ephesians 6)
" behind These" the firey darts can't get through.
These are how we are to be with [our brethren.]
No all who say Lord, Lord are our brethren

Remember [also] our Lord did say in LUKE 22:36,37,38
Then said he unto them, But NOW, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his [scrip] ( the word of God)(:) and he that hath NO SWORD, let him sell his garment and BUY ONE.
37) For I" say unto you, that [this that is written must yet be accomplished in me,] "And he was reckoned among the transgressors(:)
" for the things concerning me have an end.
38) And they said , Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them,
[it is enough.]
Do you have a sword/weapon ? Your Lord said to buy one.

Because we follow Christ, [we also] are reckoned among the transgressors in this world.
By following Christ [we also] are going to come under attack. Our person, and our families by the evil in this world, because we STAND upon Christ, whom the world rejects.
It is our duty to have a weapon/sword to protect ourselves and our families from [these.] We [must] need know who our enemy is ! 

I Timothy 5:17-21
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of [double honour,] especially they who labour in the WORD and DOCTRINE
18) For the Scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer [is] worthy of his reward.
19) Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
20) Them that sin [rebuke before all,] that others also may fear.
21) I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the ELECT ANGELS, that thou [observe these things] without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

2 John 1:1
The elder unto The Elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; ( Jesus is the way, the [Truth,] and the life) and not I only, but also [all they that have known the truth;]

We know the TRUTH, the world will have the LIE.
We are [of] the Kingdom of God, and NOT of this world.
Mark 9:1
And he said unto them, Verily I' say unto you, That there be [some] of them that STAND here, which [shall not] taste of death, [till] they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

If these SEE the kingdom of God [come] in POWER, they are here at the End.

The Church is not !
We come with him, "the ten thousand(s) of his saints." Jude 1:14
Enoch prophesied of these saying, Behold, the Lord cometh [with] ten thousands of his saints.

Yes; It is very frightening.
But remember WE are to Fear Not. Even if we are brought before the magistrates the Holy Ghost will [in that hour] bring to our thoughts what we are to say.
Greater love hath no man, than to lay down his life for a friend. John 15:13
( We are called a friend of Christ)
We must always remember the early church that was made an example of before the world [at that time.]
As death came, they shouted MARANATH
Stephen SAW our Lord Jesus STAND to receive him, at his stoning.
What an honor ! Praise God

Perhaps this is what our Lord meant when he said: LUKE 18:7,8
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with him ?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless [when the Son of man
cometh, shall he find faith on the earth ?]

We; here in the United States of America, are of the mind that we are some how special, and the church herself feels she will not see persecution.
If we look at the earth from google earth, THIS side of the world is aprox 1/3 of the land mass.
Revelation 8:7-12 KJV
1, The third part of trees and green grass
2. the third part of the seas became blood
3. the third part of the creatures of the sea, died
4. the third part of the ships were destroyed
5.the third part of the rivers, and fountains of water
6. Wormwood, the third part of the waters became wormwood and many men died.
7. the third part of the sun was smitten
8. the third part of the moon
9. the third part of the stars
so as the third part of them were darkened
10. the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise
Revelation 9:18 KJV
11. the third part of men killed

We know that the Lord will be centered on the other 2/3's part of the earth in the time of Jacob's Trouble. Sooo... this leaves one to think; Will this side of the world still be here while all this is going on?

2 Corinthians 4:4
IN WHOM THE GOD OF THIS WORLD HATH BLINDED THE MINDS OF THEM WHICH BELIEVE NOT,
LEST THE LIGHT OF THE GLORIOUS [GOSPEL OF CHRIST,] WHO IS THE IMAGE OF GOD, SHOULD SHINE UNTO THEM.
Let us continue to [not] hide our lamps under a bushel, but rather Let It Shine in this dark world, while we still can labor.
Even if our labor be among our brethren to [keep] them in the light, [until] he comes.
John 16:13 Jesus said:
In this world ye shall have tribulation(:) but be of good cheer; I' have overcome the world.
and so shall we, IN THAT DAY, [by the Rapture or by death) which ever comes first.
We are witnessing the Christians persecution NOW in some parts of the world.
Christians are even now in the USA on the list of HLS as a threat .
Amazing isn't it ?
This Book is right.
We [must] trust our Lord and his Word.
