"A story from Genesis 2:19"

Genesis 2:19
…Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

A fable about dogs...

Later that day, God visited Adam to see how he was getting along.  "Adam." He asked, "have you finished naming all of the animals that I put in your charge?"

"I have Lord, but it was a big job!  It took me a lot longer than I thought."

Then God said, "Tell Me their names."

Flying overhead were great flocks of feathered creatures and Adam pointed up at them, waived his hand and said, "Those are birds."

"What are these?" God asked next.

Adam saw God was looking into a river where there were swarms of creatures swimming.  "Oh, those are fish," he answered.

Next God pointed at each various animal on the hills, in the valleys and even in the trees.  Adam answered, "Sheep, cattle, horses, rabbits, bears, lions, squirrels" and so on.

"Are these all?" God asked.

"No," Adam replied.

"Call them all to Me so I may hear the names you've chosen."

Adam put two fingers in his mouth and gave a loud whistle.  Over the crest of a hill came creatures running so hard they had their tongues hanging out.  They were black, brown, white, tan, gray and every conceivable mix.  And they came in all different sizes too.  Most of them came and sat in front of the Lord and Adam.  Some of them rolled in the green grass.  Others played with sticks.  As they did so, Adam began reciting each of their names.
"Rex, Rover, Luke, Duke, Princess, Prince, Lass, Lassie, Lucky, Spot," and on and on... and on.

When Adam stopped at last, he was sweating and breathing hard.  "It was a big job Lord as You can see!" exclaimed Adam.

"Yes," God said as He laughed.  "It is good indeed."
