I think you are right in that Isa 47 does indeed have a message that applies to America, even though America isn't Babylon. G-d always has the punishment fit the crime and We're told....
"ever shall I be mistress'; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the end thereof...these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day" (Isa 47:7...9)
This applies to Babylon, not the United States of America. However, the USA suffers from a similar type of pride. Most Americans are so ego-centric they can't imagine the USA NOT being center stage at end times. Why? Because they trust in America's strength more than they do G-d's power. They don't think G-d is powerful enough to cause a powershift from America to Babylon in Iraq. They think current events will "ever shall be..." as is said in Isa 47:7.
This is why America will fall before the end times comes and fall FAST! G-d must wipe out America as we know it in order to teach a lot of His children to rely on Him instead of relying on our American heritage. And most people who are convinced the USA is Babylon do so because they have more confidence in America's ever enduring power than they do G-d's ever enduring power. It is that confidence that America will always endure as the supreme power of the world that makes them say no nation will EVER be more powerful than America, so if Babylon is the most powerful city, it must be somewhere in America. That's just wrong thinking and it is probably good insight as to WHY America must fall before the End Times arrives.
If Yeshua tarries and the natural course of human hitory were to continue another century or two, China may finally overtake America as the premier world power. Communism is the main reason they haven't today. They've destroyed their natural resource advantage by suppressing their people, whereas America has demonstrated the value of freedom and ingenuity by rising to the top despite being dwarfed in size by both China and India. America has been the least socialistic nation in the world; and not coincidentally, the most prosperous.
But the value in teh example America has set in the last century will no longer exist when the False Messiah rises to power. He will control the entire world, so learning what is the best way to run a country through contrast won't matter then. and making an example of the United States as to how fleeting power can be will be its primary usefulness when that time rises.
