In regard to my previous response on 2/16 at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/feb2013/donnad216-3.htm to your post at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/feb2013/jovial215-3.htm about the gap period between Pope Benedict XVI and the next pope, apparently the article I previously posted from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2276884/Pope-Benedict-shock-resignation-Pontiff-85-600-years-stand-longer-strength-carry-on.html was incorrect in saying, "Another reform lets the cardinals opt for a simple majority vote if they have not succeeded in electing a pope after about two weeks of balloting." A more recent article called Conclave: How cardinals elect a Pope athttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-21412589 says, "John Paul II changed the rules of the Conclave so a Pope could be elected by simple majority. But Benedict XVI changed the requirements back so that a two-thirds-plus-one vote is required, meaning the man elected is likely to be a compromise candidate." So we will just have to wait and see how much of a gap period there will be between Pope Benedict XVI and the next elected Pope.
