I'm saddened by the experience of anyone who, having immersed himself in any person or movement's teachings beyond the point of good balance, suffers spiritual "shipwreck", as it were.
Perhaps the Word of God sheds a light on these unfortunate situations: (John 15:7) "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." At first glance, this scripture really seems like a "sky's-the-limit" promise. "You want it, you got it". Wow! Great!
However, if we really abide in Christ, our wills meld together over time—His wishes become our wishes—and it becomes literally impossible for us to ask Him for something out of line with His will for us at that time. We just KNOW when something is too early, too much, or inappropriate. At the right time, He places a desire in our heart, and we ask for it according to His will, He hears us, and it's done. It's all about ABIDING IN THE VINE and sensing, through the Spirit, God's perfect timing.
I believe we must be careful to follow Jesus above all others, and keep our eyes and thoughts on Him alone, and let Him give us the desires of our heart, which He puts there Himself by the Spirit of God, in His timing. We will then reap the desired result, if during waiting, we "faint not".
