The new moon of the tenth month was sighted on Sunday evening, December 21, 2025 from Israel. This means that the Fast of Tevet will be sunset December 30 to sunset December 31.  Coinciding with New Year's Eve day.  Right before the start of our new year, 2026.

 

This minor fast, on the 10th day of the 10th month, occurs 10 days after Hanukkah.

 

And in Strong's Hebrew 10, "Abaddoh, Abaddon", means:  "destruction", "ruin".  "A perishing - destruction."  And in Revelation 11:10 the king of the angels in the Abyss is named Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek.  Abaddon is the destroying angel.

On the tenth of Tevet in 425 BCE, King Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem.  This led to the breaching of the city walls on 17 Tammuz, the destruction of the Temple on 9 Av.  And the Jewish people went into exile in Babylon for 70 years. 

 

"..on the tenth day of the tenth month, the word of the Lord came to the Prophet Ezekiel:  "Son of man, write down today's date, for on this very day the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem."  God knew this day - 10/10

 

After that, 10 Tevet became a day of fasting, mourning and repentance in remembrance of Jerusalem.

One day in the future, there will be another surrounding of Jerusalem by armies for the 'abomination of desolation' written about by Luke.  Luke 21:20 (the parallel of Mathew 24:15) - when the Antichrist and the Gentiles capture and trample the Holy City for forty two months.

 

God knows this day too.

 

There is yet to be another desolation prophesied in The Revelation - Babylon the Great.  A woman sitting on a scarlet beast covered with blasphemous names and 7 heads and 10 horns.  The golden cup she holds is filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.  And on her head is written a name - a mystery:  "Babylon the Great, Mother of Prostitutes and the Abominations of the Earth."  She will be burned with fire and destroyed.  Some believe this is NYC.

 

God knows this day too.

 

December 31/New Year's Eve:

 

December 31, 2025 is New Year's Eve.  What I wrote previously about Christmas Eve and Christmas Day being high value targets for terrorist attacks also applies to New Year's Eve.  Large crowds.  Parties.  Lots of drinking.  

 

Many cities are cancelling or curtailing New Year's Eve festivities due to fear of ISIS-like attacks.  Paris, Sydney, Tokyo, Belgrade, etc.

About a million people are expected at Times Square, NYC for the New Year's Eve celebration.  That's a lot of people in a somewhat closed space.  Certainly a big target for followers of Islam.  Attendees are advised to "have contingency plans given the potential for cellular network overload...."  Pretty sobering warning.

I am always relieved when Times Square is eventually emptied and people have left the area. Then I am grateful for another 'peaceful' start to the New Year.  Praying for another 'uneventful' celebration this New Year's Eve.
