"The 65 years in
Isaiah 7. Part 7."
John and Doves,
Isaiah 7:8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of
Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall
Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
Does God mention Syria will be broken within 65 years in this
verse? The answer is no. God only singles out Ephraim/ Jordan will
be broken within 65 years, that they no longer be a people.
The reason is simple. According to Isaiah 17:1, Damascus shall be
utterly destroyed and becomes a ruinous heap. Many bible prophecy
students,
including myself, believe Damascus shall be destroyed amid a
war between her and Israel. I call it three shepherds' war. We
shall witness Damascus becoming a ruinous heap soon. Damascus is
destroyed at the beginning of tribulation. This is why God
excludes
Damascus from the 65-year judgment. Concerning Jordan ,
according to Obadiah 1:11-14, they shall recover their territory
in the second half of tribulation, after gentile nations divide
the city Jerusalem into half per Joel 3:2. Jordan shall prevail
until Jesus
returns, and they shall be broken and be not a people.
Here's the fate of Syrian King Rezin.
Rezin conspired with a number of Levantine kings (e.g., Hiram II
of Tyre) to rebel against Tiglath-Pileser III. Rezin's reign ended
in 732
BC, when Tiglath-Pileser III sacked Damascus and annexed
Aram.
Assyrian inscriptions indicate that Tiglath-pileser made a
three-year campaign in the Levant from 734 to 732 BC. In the first
year he attacked
the Phoenicians and sacked the coastal cities of Tyre and
Sidon. In the second year he devastated the land of Aram and the
Arabs living in the Trans-Jordan under Queen Shamsi. Although he
beat the Arameans in the field, he failed to take Damascus. In the
third
year he managed to take Damascus, where he slew King Rezin.
