John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that
have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they
that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Jesus spoke of two resurrection in John
5:29. They are resurrection of life and resurrection of
damnation. Concerning the resurrection of life, Paul has
broken down the resurrection of life into three phases in
1 Corinthians 15. First phase is the first fruit which has
been fulfilled by Jesus in 33 AD. Second phase is the
church who belongs to Christ at his coming in the air.
This is pretribulation rapture. Third phase is the
resurrection of the martyred saints who are beheaded for
their testimony to Jesus in tribulation (Revelation 20:4).
John sums it up as the First Resurrection. Then Jesus
shows John the Second Resurrection which is the
resurrection of damnation. We call it resurrection of the
dead. Sea and earth cast out their dead bodies. They come
back alive at the end of Millennium, face the Great White
Throne judgment, and go into their eternal damnation in
the lake of fire. At this time, the resurrection of
life and resurrection of eternal damnation spoken by Jesus
is finally fulfilled.
A note here. " they that have done evil,
unto the resurrection of damnation". For anyone who has
done evil, and reject Jesus Christ in his life, after he
dies, he is doomed for resurrection of damnation because
he doesn't have a second chance to repent while he is
locked in Hades, waiting for the Great White Throne
judgment. His fate is sealed while he is on earth. His
decision to follow Christ or reject Christ while he is
alive determines if he receives resurrection of life, or
resurrection of damnation.
