Fay,I am very happy that this subject was a good one for you.It is, also, for me, but in my case, in reverse.I know those scriptures about where my heart and affections should be.But, alas, I find myself quite convicted by these same scriptures, as I am too often wooed away by things of this world. If I compare how many hours a week I spend reading the word of God, with how many hours of tv I watch in a week.If I compare how many hours a week I spend in prayer, with how many hours of frivolous small talk and jesting I put out in a week.If I compare how much time, daily, I actually mind heavenly things, with how much time, daily, I mind the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. How well would I fare in such comparisons?Would the following be descriptive in my case?
Daniel 5:27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
However, I have a hope that the king of Babylon did not:
I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Jesus has saved me.And while I'm still here, I daily need his help, by his Spirit, to transfer my affections from the things on the earth, to those things above.
