Hello John and Doves,
Two big cosmic events this
weekend, 12/21 to dawn of 12/23 - starting off the Eight
Days of Hanukkah, December 22 to December 30 (which contains
our Christmas Day, December 25): The Winter Solstice and
the Ursid meteor shower.
The last shooting stars of the
decade will rain down on Earth. The waning crescent moon
will help these be more visible to star gazers.
Here's a cool representation
seeing these from space of the Ursids and Earth:

This shower peaks in mid-December, when Earth intersects the
dust cloud left by comet
Tuttle."https://www.meteorshowers.org/view/Ursids

"Christmas has come early for
stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere, who will be treated to
two major cosmic events this weekend. Winter officially
kicks off on calendars Saturday - a day sacred to many ancient
cultures called winter solstice. But this year, the
hallowed day will be followed by a dazzling display of
shooting stars coming from the annual Ursids meteor shower,
which peaks Sunday evening and lasts into the dawn of Monday.
And astronomers say this year
is going to be particularly active, with a rate potentially
two to three times more than usual - up to 30 to 45 meteors
per hour."
