"Flood Stories"

The adjacent photo is an ancient Summerian account of the flood of Noah, which you can read about in English at http://www.ancienttexts.org/library/mesopotamian/gilgamesh/tab11.htm where it gives an English translation of this tablet.

It talks about Noah building the ark, putting all animals on it, how the waters covered the whole earth and how the ark came to rest on top a mountain, and talks of him sending out a bird several times in search of dry land, just like the Biblical account.

This story has both similarities and differences compared to the Biblical account, but the similarities are too similar for it to be talking about a different event.  It is definitely the same event, told from a different perspective, with perhaps a few facts altered orally from one teller to another before it was written down.  Of course I suspect we all know the Biblical account is 100% accurate. The neat thing is that this tablet is dated to many years BEFORE Moses wrote down the book of Genesis.

Shalom,
