I don't know if Maitreya will be the False Messiah (FM), but he sure seems to be pretty much begging the world of darkness for the job.  At http://www.shareintl.org/maitreya/Ma_emerge.htm, he is talking about unity, one world government, and why he isn't out to start a new religion but be a guide to existing ones, obviously in a Universalist way.  He's promoting Universalism via New Age powers.

He calls himself 'Maitreya', which can be spelled in Hebrew as מיתראיה or מאיתריה , which totals up to 666!   Apparently, the Buddhists are expecting someone by this name.  I am not saying this guy is IT, and he is getting a bit old to be "it", but he may have been groomed to be "it" at some point had the time been right.  At this point he's been on the world scene long enough one must wonder if he is "it", why haven't his teachings caught on more widespreadly by now.

But he is preaching a model I think was cooked up by the world of darkness; unity via commonality and what HE will teach you.  A one world socialistic government.

His theology may or may not be what the FM will promote.  Perhaps it is merely a precursor - something Satan wants people to believe so it will be EASIER for them to fall for worshipping the FM as God.  But it does appear to be what the world or darkness is promoting NOW to those who are of some sort of Monotheistic persuasion.
