"Faith and the Law"
As we are looking more into the Old Testament to discern times and
meanings, we are discovering the rich resource we as the Church have
neglected to appreciate and many of us are seeing it as an exciting
treasure chest to be explored. But many in the Hebrew Roots
movement are reverting back to it in a legalistic way, seeing it as
better than our 'free-style' age of Grace. The flesh wants to impose
boundaries that Jesus has nailed to the cross and fulfilled completely! I
am alerted to this tendency by efforts to single out Christmas as pagan
worship and revert back to the Feasts as being somehow the holy thing
to do. Paul warns of this in lots of passages. He even
suggests that a Christian might find himself eating food sacrificed to
idols...in an idol's temple, no less, without violating his
conscience! Collosians 2:11-20 speaks very precisely to this issue
and the freedom we now have in Christ...to live in the 'honor
system'....a pure conscience toward God through Faith! When we try to
mix faith with the law it is like water and oil...it CAN'T be
homogenized..legalism will always rise to the top.
