"The Sign of Jonah"

"Nigerian Man Who Survived Three Days at Bottom of Atlantic Ocean Credits God for Survival" Christian News Please read article:  http://christiannews.net/2013/12/05/nigerian-man-who-survived-three-days-at-bottom-of-atlantic-ocean-credits-god-for-survival/

Wow! Are there possible prophetic implications to this story ??

I was familiar with the story and video, but when I read the title of this article, it of course brought Jonah to mind, and that brought Jesus telling the Pharisees of The Sign of Jonah to mind.

“Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.” He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Matt 12:38-41

In this verse, Jesus says He will give only one sign: The sign of Jonah.  This sign was speaking directly of His death and resurrection, which would prove He was the Messiah; this was what the Pharisees, whom He was addressing had requested: a sign that He was who He said He was, and this in spite of all the other signs and proofs He had already given. This sign was certainly fulfilled at Passover and Firstfruits some two thousand years ago.

Yet, here we have the story of a man, a Christian cook no less, who is for three days and three nights in the belly of a boat at the bottom of the sea. He firmly believes in his predicament that God is capable of rescuing him

"O God, by your name, save me,” he recited. “The Lord sustains my life.”

and recites the Psalms (54-92) which his wife had texted him to read that night before going to bed.  After the three days and nights he is miraculously saved ! (and I believe it may be even more miraculous than the article says because I think I heard on the original tape the control room telling the diver to continue down the passageway, but the diver stating two different times that there was a "closet" here which he was going to check out...and that was where Okene was located).

So, we live in evil times -a wicked and adulterous generation much like the one Jesus was addressing and also wicked in ways similar to Nineveh; a society constantly demanding proof that Jesus is Who He says He is; we then have a Christian who goes into the belly of the sea for three days and nights, calls upon the Lord to save him, is given up for dead and then is miraculously rescued, who then gives the credit and glory to God...and this event mimics the Sign of Jonah which the Lord Himself used regarding His own resurrection.

Could this story possibly be pointing to another soon coming rescue (Rapture) and Resurrection?

And if not, if there are no prophetic implications at all, think of this: when this man tells his story, people are going to look at him like he was Jonah! And he will be giving the glory to God through this entire story - think of the people who may find Christ through this.

Read more for good information on Jesus and Jonah, which will further clarity that story, including the "evil days" in which the story took place: http://www.gotquestions.org/sign-of-Jonah.html#ixzz2nC66ntla
(Note: I do not necessarily agree with the explanation at the "gotquestions" link of how the three days and night are counted, but they are a different study)
