It was a fact of life in America's history.  When "the law" is unable to protect citizens, it is absolute foolishness to deny the citizenry of the right to self-protection.  That is ONE reason why the US Constitution has its 2nd Amendment.

The OTHER reason for that amendment has to do with the right of the citizenry for self-protection when facing an out-of-control governing force, as England's king and Parliament had become. 

Per the pic below, Israel understands and cares for their children.  They ALL "get it."

 

Maybe we should adopt the same approach.
