There were very good Protestant Bibles available in 1611, however the religious establishment and especially King James( a Catholic), didn't like them as they pointed out the errors of the Roman church. The King James was a compromise PC version removing those "offensive footnotes". It was meant to please everyone that mattered. The present KJV is the 3rd revision/translation since 1611.The NKJV is the 4th revision of the KJV.The authors did make use of the great playwrights and poets of the day to help put scripture in beautiful verse. To demand use of the KJV only is imho an error. Its wording is obtuse and incomprehensible in so many places to the average reader that its real usefulness is questionable in getting people interested in the Word and getting people saved. People need Bibles that the ordinary person can read and understand. Years after salvation perhaps a person can read the KJV and actually understand it.So I really have an issue with the "KJV only" people. I believe they are actually hindering getting people saved and educated in GOD's word.Lewis Brackett
