"Why I like Christmas........and why I don't"

Seasons Greetings Doves  !

I like Christmas because it is the one season of the year where I see colorful lights displayed on trees, yards and houses.  I love the colorful lights in neighborhoods and homes.  I don’t celebrate Christmas but I do like putting up my 2 small fiber optic trees my brothers gave me!!!  It brightens up my little house.

I don’t like the hooplah behind it be it religious or secular.  I could care less if Santa is coming to town or not.  I could care less if religious people feel to celebrate Jesus ‘birthday’.   The apostles and disciples never ‘celebrated’ the birthday of Jesus after He ascended.  Where in the scriptures does it say we must or should?

Growing up Catholic, we celebrated both the religious and secular event.  When I got saved, the church I attended did not celebrate it or any religious holidays.  We used holidays mostly for conferences.  We went took a trip through church history and learned how Christmas and all the holidays came from paganism.

For years to come, I abhored the Christmas season.

As I matured in Christ, I decided Christmas was a good time to talk about Jesus to people, maybe even leading them to Christ but did not ‘celebrate’ it.

Then I began ‘celebrating’ it.  I quickly learned nothing happened on Christmas day.  I did not get all tingly inside. The sky did not turn into jingle bells.  While I tried to listen that is to “HARK”, I never heard the Angels sing Glory to the New Born King...(maybe it was because the KING of kings was no longer a new born!)  I think we ought to change the words to say “Glory to the KING of kings!”

What a mess opening wrapped up gifts only to throw or save the bows / wrappers for the next event!  Then came brunch or lunch and the football games.  I’m not sure what time the religious people made it to ‘church’...probably the night before Christmas..

And while there are families who feel close and warm & fuzzy at Christmas, they probably feel that way all year round!  It’s not that way among the people I know.  There’s always bickering or some kind of drama.  That is them.  That is not me.

I am content having communion w/my King and Lord.  I’m so glad celebrating the birthday of Jesus is not part of the 10 commandments or any of the commandments in the Scriptures especially when He was not born on December 25th!

I love my family.  I love my friends but Christmas is not the best day of the year to be around them !!!

Happy day to everyone !! For Happy is that people whose GOD is the Lord!  (Psalm 144:15)
