The Sanhedrin "issued a formal ruling this week, asking the Holy One, Blessed be He, to remove hostile forces from the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, reveal the Mashiach (Messiah), rebuild the Beti HaMikdash (Holy Temple) and restore prophecy to Israel.  The written ruling, dated 6 Menachem Av, 5786.."

 

The chief rabbis in Israel convened a beit din (rabbinical court) and "ruled that the Messiah come immediately."

 

The first resolution concerning removing hostile forces states:  "The court rules that every kind of erev rav (the mixed multitude, a term for corrupting elements within the nation), every kind of Amalekite, every kind of Ishmaelite, every kind of traitor of every stripe, and all the forces of evil shall leave the Jewish people and the Land of Israel."

 

The second resolution concerning revealing the Messiah and rebuilding the Temple asks for the "revealed kingship of Heaven, Mashiach, and the Temple:  "the revealed and powerful kingship of the Holy One, blessed Be He, in mercy and in joy, upon every member of the Jewish people, upon every family, every community, every tribe, and the whole Jewish people, upon the righteous among the nations and sons of Noach, and upon the entire world.  The court asks that the Holy One, Blessed Be He, reveal our righteous Mashiach."  And they ask that all obstacles to building the Temple be "removed and erased."

 

The third resolution is for the return of prophecy.  It asks "that the Holy One, Blessed Be He, restore prophecy to the Jewish people, and guard the prophets from all those who seek to harm the prophets of Israel."  2

 

The Talmud states that the last prophets were Chagai (Haggai), Zechariah and Malachi.  Prophecy ceased after them.

 

"The return of prophecy is treated in Jewish sources as one of the fixed markers of the messianic age itself, not a separate development from it.  The clearest biblical source is Joel:  "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions"  (Joel 3:1)  (Joel 2: 28 and Acts 2:14 - 36)

 

The Sanhedrin's ruling sees all three of these petitions as a "single connected restoration" - the revelation of the Messiah, the return of prophecy and the building of the Temple. 

 

The precedent for these petitions goes all the way back to Abraham when he 'argued' with God over the righteous and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

 

"By framing its request entirely in  the language of blessing - the destruction of enemies, the revelation of Mashiach, the rebuilding of the Temple - the Sanhedrin is asking Heaven for exactly the category of pronouncement that, once made, the tradition says must stand.  The lo bashamayim hi principle gives the court's ruling the standing to bind Heaven, ..according to the sources the Sanhedrin itself is invoking, this ruling was never meant to be reversible."

Well, the Sanhedrin missed the Messiah some 2,000 years ago...and the 'return to prophecy' they are requesting is found in the New Testament.

 

I find it very interesting and 'telling' that they used Joel's prophecy for the 'return to prophecy'. 

 

This is the exact prophecy that Peter quoted on Pentecost (Acts 2)!  What are the odds of that happening?!  I have always wondered why Peter quoted Joel 2 - saying 'this is what Joel the prophet spoke about' - when that wasn't what was happening that day - the Believers were speaking in various languages telling the people about the great works of the Lord.  

 

Was the Holy Spirit moving Peter to quote Joel 2 so when the Rapture happened on Pentecost some time in the far future, the Sanhedrin (and anyone) can read in Acts 2 what happened on that first Pentecost some 2,000 years ago; and they will see the fulfillment of Joel 2.  And the Sanhedrin will see that Joel 2 is exactly what they were petitioning from God! 

 

Is this a coincidence Peter quoted this exact prophecy of Joel on Pentecost - some 2,000 years ago and the new Sanhedrin are now petitioning God to return to prophecy?  And Peter, a Jew, was a Believer of Jesus Christ.  The Holy Spirit led him to quote Joel on Pentecost..I believe for a future fulfillment and possibly, a message to the new Sanhedrin!

 

IF the Rapture happens on the upcoming August Pentecost/Feast of New Wine - this may be the event that wakes many Jewish people up.  And maybe even the Sanhedrin when they read Acts 2 (the story of Pentecost) and see it matches their first petition to "the Holy One, Blessed Be He." 

 

This prophecy is indeed what will come true during Jacob's Trouble, the Tribulation period.

 

Joel 2:

17‘In the last days, God says,

I will pour out My Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy,

your young men will see visions,

your old men will dream dreams.

18Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days,

and they will prophesy.

19I will show wonders in the heavens above

and signs on the earth below,

blood and fire and billows of smoke.

20The sun will be turned to darkness,

and the moon to blood,

before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord.

21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord

will be saved.’e

 

They missed the Messiah.  Now he who comes is the man of sin - the Antichrist.

 

The End of Days prophecies were given by the prophets of Israel - like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah, Daniel, etc.  The prophecies for this time period continue in the New Testament and end with The Revelation.

 

Maybe their petitions are a sign of how close we are to the End of Days!
