Hello John and Doves,
Mpox is now the second PHEIC
(Public Health Emergency of International Concern) declared
by WHO.
Countries are starting to respond
to this news - we'll see how far some of them go in
"containing the spread".
Here are some responses so far
- it's still early....
China:
China is taking the Monkeypox
PHEIC seriously - maybe they know something we don't?
"China announced Friday it will
begin screening people and goods entering the country for
mpox over the next six months, just two days after the World
Health Organization declared the virus a global health
emergency."
"China's General
Administration of Customs (GAC) has announced tighter
surveillance measures at ports of entry to prevent the
import of the Mpox virus to the country."
India:
In India, an
expert is urging screenings at major airports:
:
"With Mpox cases confirmed in
Sweden and Pakistan, an infectious disease expert
is urging immediate health screenings at major airports to
prevent further spread."
"Mpox (formerly Monkeypox) had
been declared a global health emergency by the World Health
Organization (WHO) and the Africa CDC this week, after the
latest spread to 13 countries in Africa, including four new
countries. The latest outbreak due to the more
virulent and deadly strain - Clade 1b has also spread to
Sweden. The WHO warned of more cases in Europe.
Pakistan has reported 3 cases, but the strain causing the
disease is yet to be known."
"Expert calls for
immediate Mpox screening at Indian airports....We
should especially screen travelers from countries which have
reported cases of Mpox in the recent outbreak," Dr.
Gautam Menon, Dean of Research and Professor of Physics and
Biology, at Ashoka University, told IANS."
Czech Republic:
"The Czech Ministry of Health
and the State Health Institute (SZU) issued a statement,
recommending people vaccinate and take precautions against
Mpox if travelling to areas where Mpox is currently
reports. A total of 11 cases have been reported in the
country this year, according to the data from SZU."
Australia/New South Wales:
"Health authorities in Australia's
New South Wales (NSW) Health asked the community to be aware
of symptoms of mpox. There have been 93 notifications
of mpox in NSW since the start of June."
South Korea:
Saudi Arabia:
The E.U.:
"The European Centre for Disease
Prevention and Control (ECDC) on Friday raised its risk
level for mpox, a day after global health officials
confirmed the first infection with a new strain of the virus
outside Africa, in Sweden."
U.S.:
"A highly contagious and severe
strain of mpox is crossing continents and U.S. officials are
preparing for its eventual arrival here. U.S.
officials are pleading with the public to take precautions
now that mpox has been declared a global public health
emergency..."
"The CDC issued a health alert and
travel notice about the stronger mpox strain in Congo and
neighboring countries, recommending providers and health
agencies monitor for signs and ask patients about recent
travel to affected areas."
We'll see how far THEY take this,
this time....
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
Maranatha!
