The new moon was
sighted on Monday, August 5, 2024 in Jerusalem. So
the first day of Av is sunset August 5th through sunset
August 6th.
The torah calendar is correct for
the month of Av then.
So, with the sighting of the new
moon in Jerusalem for the month of Av, the fifteenth
day of Av will be sunset August 19 to sunset August 20.
August 19th is also the full
moon. It's a super moon and a blue moon. It's a
super moon because it's a bit closer to the earth this month
so it will appear bigger and brighter. It's a blue
moon, based on the second definition of a 'blue moon' - it's
a "seasonal blue moon" - "the third full moon in an
astronomical season with four full moons"
