Hello John and Doves,
Some updates posted here following
Doves letters I wrote earlier in the week about Lebanon,
Niger, etc.
Lebanon Update:
Lebanon is In a World of
Financial Hurt:
Lebanon had previously asked for
financial help from the Central Bank - the country
is facing total collapse if funding is not given.
"...Lebanese media reported
Thursday that the Central Bank is considering completely
halting its funding of the state as of Monday, August
7 This funding would have financed the government of
Lebanon...Lebanon's parliament failed to pass a law that
would allow the state to borrow foreign currency from the
Central Bank." The Central Bank wanted this law passed
and the reimbursement of the funds.
"Lebanon has been negotiating with
the IMF in order to secure a bailout package to alleviate
the severe economic crisis created by decades of corruption
in the financial sector. However, Washington,
the IMF and the World Bank have been accused of exploiting
the country's economic crisis to exert political pressure
on Lebanon."
Strait of Hormuz Update:
"Iran has equipped its
Revolutionary Guards' navy with drones and 1,000 km range
missiles, Iran's news agencies reported on Saturday, as the
U.S. offers to put guards on commercial ships going through
the Gulf's Strait of Hormuz...Earlier this week, Washington
said it could soon offer to put armed sailors and Marines on
commercial ships in the region following Iran's seizure and
harassment of vessels."

Niger Update:
"The U.S. has partially suspended
aid to Niger as military coup leaders in the country faced a
Sunday dedline issued by West African states to relinquish
power."
So that deadline before
military intervention is Sunday, 8/6.
Too many hot spots!
Maranatha,
