"There hasn't been a case of malaria caught locally in the US in 20 years.  Now the CDC is 'warning doctors and public health officials about a handful of locally acquired cases of malaria."  Four people in Florida and one in Texas have "gotten exposed to the disease locally"

Then Maryland reports their first case in 40 years.  "Maryland health officials have reported a case of locally acquired malaria in a resident who lives in the D.C. area."

 

"Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease caused by a parasite.  Symptoms usually appear seven to 30 days after a bite from an infected mosquito and can include high fever, chills, body aches, diarrhea and vomiting."

I know in my area of the country cities are spraying mosquitoes to help contain West Nile Virus.
