"Notice of Deficiency"

Dear John and Fellow Watchers:

Letter 3219

I'm sure the number-crunchers in the eschatosphere could have a lot of fun with this.

The IRS has been in the news lately, with the story that the Biden Administration wants to hire 87,000 new IRS agents.  Biden has put us on notice that he wants more resources to instill more fear and confiscate more stuff.   They know this hiring objective will never be met, of course.  That's not the point.  It is the timing of this announcement that I find interesting.

When the government, through the IRS, intends to take your stuff, they first give you a 90-day warning.  That's what the Form 3219 is all about.  Up to that point, almost everything the IRS does to anyone -- bullying, threats, harassment, etc. -- is just that.  But when the 90-day letter is sent, things get serious.  In 90 days, unless the hapless taxpayer is able to effectively resist (good luck with that!!), liens, property confiscations, and a LOT of very unpleasant things can immediately follow.

Now:  what will happen in the U.S. in 90 days?

The mid-term elections are scheduled, and a military visit from China is rumored.  The clock is now running, and on November 8th we will see closure.

The 90-day letter is officially called the Notice of Deficiency.  This brings Daniel 5:27 to mind:  "TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting."  You have been examined and found to be deficient.  God sent that message to Belshazzar.  Unpleasant things immediately followed.

Did God send America a 90-day letter?

I don't know.  I still think God communicates through His written word.  We don't need arcane "messages" when He tells us plainly: "don't murder, don't steal, don't commit perjury" and all the rest,  We KNOW - individually and corporately - that we've strayed from His commandments.  And neither "voting for the right guys" or "building more sophisticated weapons"  will undo the damage or incur God's favor.  Humility, prayer, seeking His face, and turning from our wicked ways is what He prescribes.

But time is running out.  I personally think America is not going to survive, but there's still room on the lifeboats.  We are going to see our Savior face to face in the very near future, and I hope this is as sobering to your readers as it is to me.  Repent, be reconciled, make restitution.  Turn off the TV and seek His face.  Jesus really is coming soon.

Best,

Steve
