I have thought about that before.

It cannot be a coincidence that only the seven churches in Asia are addressed in the book of Revelation.

Many first century churches were started there.

Also, there was persecution there in the next few centuries.

Then it was there, in Constantinople, that center of Pergamos period was, from about 312 to about 1054.

After the East-West Schism that culminated in 1054, the western whore church of Rome grew darker and more satanic.

Then, when muslim Turks began to viciously persecute the churches, the east reached out to the west.

The pope sent the crusade, driving islam further mad with fury.

About 40 years before Columbus discovered the new world, Constantinople finally fell, and became Istanbul.

Darkness descended upon the people there, as a vast, powerful islamic empire ruled from Turkey.

It is interesting that Jesus said that Satan's seat is in Pergamos, and that he dwells there.

I don't agree with Hislop's theory that the seat moved from originally in Babylon, then to Pergamos, and finally to Rome.

Jesus never mentioned Satan's seat as having moved at all, or as having been in any other place except Pergamos.

However, in Revelation 13, we see that Satan gives the beast his seat.

Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

  2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

That John, on the isle of Patmos, was perhaps looking out over the Aegean, in the direction of Asia, too far to be seen by someone at sea level.

That then Jesus let him see into the future, to see the beast rise up out of the sea.

Did John get to see the beast coming up out of the Aegean, onto the western shore of Turkey?

That perhaps the beast rises in Turkey?

That then Satan gives him seat, which is still in Turkey.

That the center of the kingdom the beast would be in Turkey.

Many early writers also said that Meshech and Tubal were in what is now called Turkey.

The islamic caliphate of Turkey suffered its "mortal head wound" about a hundred years ago.

If it rises again, it would be a strange thing indeed.
