John and Doves,Since I lack transportation to Church, I felt led of the Holy Spirit to haveCommunion at home.
I start by reading
1 Corinthians 11:23--31.
That section tells us how Jesus shared Communion with His disciples at the Last Supper.
In verse 26 it says that each time we have Communion, we are honoring the death of Jesus....reminding ourselves of the extreme depth of love He showed for us at Calvary.
Since the emphasis here is upon the extreme sacrifice our Lord made in our behalf---the Just One dying for the unjust---I go to Isaiah 53 and read slowly the Spiritual meaning of Christ's death.Where the verses use the word "we", I substitute it with the word "I".It is more personal and relevant that way.
" I owed a debt I couldn'tpay.....He paid a debt He didn't owe."
Then with a regular cracker, I break it and repeat the words of Jesus at the Last Supper, adding,"reproach hath *Broken* My heart".Psalm 69:20
Then with a small amount of water, I repeat the words of Jesus supping the cup, and then examine my shortcomings, confessing them to our Lord and asking Him for help to overcome my daily character defects.
I meditate on the verses in John Chapters 15, 16 and 17, dwelling on the concept of the unity that I have with the God-head, andwith fellow Believers, the Body of Christ.
I pause in the afterglow of the Holy Spirit, and then sing mental-songs-within(so as not to awaken my room mate on the other side of the wall) to finish my worship time with the Lord.
Ephesians 5:19"Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs(singing in tongues)singing and*making melody in your heart* (silently)to the Lord."
My mental-songs are about the Blood of Jesus, or "I love you Lord" etc.If you also have Communion at home, you know already how to be creative in your worship time.
I share all this with you because many tell me how bored they are since Covid 19.Being jobless and confined in their homes, they are dying by inches, having nothing to do.I tell my friends and relatives how fortunate I am to have many spiritual exercises I choose to perform throughout the day.
Like Bible reading, singing along with my spiritual CD's, praying for current event items, praying for my friends, relatives and others;reading Christian books like, "The Hiding Place", by Corrie Ten Boom ( an excellent example of what the coming Great Tribulation will be like).
writing snail-mail letters, email letters and messenger-letters, listening to excellent sermons on the internet, calling at least one person a day( mostly the elderly, picking a different person each day, per week.)They are so happy that someone thought of them and called them. And of course I visit with them and bring over wholesome DVD's to share a few hours with them. And anything else the Holy Spirit may be prompting me to do.They are rewarded, yes, for the time shared, but I am far more rewarded in nurturing my soul....
"Your own soul is nourished when you are kind"-- The Living BibleProverbs 11: 17
Do I mention these things to promote myself ? No. I mention them so that those who are bored can "Occupy till I come"
(Luke 19:13)
"Idleness is the devil's workshop" (old saying).I say this to encourage the bored to be fulfilled, with no time left over.
Some take it and run with it, and then there are others who let it fall to the ground.
"But none of these things move me, nor do I count my life dear unto myself, that I may finish my course with JOY, and the ministry that I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify of the Gospel of the grace of God.ACTS 20:24
