Re: Garry B "Correctly Understanding Daniel 9:27"

Garry:   I agree with your view that "the covenant" of Daniel 9:27 represents the beginning of the restoration of fullness of the promises to Abraham.  These promises were "confirmed" to Abraham (by oath) Isaac and Jacob (by oath).  The word "confirm" is used three times. (Genesis 22:16 emphasized in Genesis 26:3) and (I Chronicles 16:17; Psalm 105:9-11).  These promises were based on the "oath of God".  This is a super covenant because the promises were based on the "oath of God". (See Note 1)  These promises were suspended when the Jewish nation rejected Jesus on Nisan 10, 30 A.D. (Zechariah 9:9 fulfilled in part).  The unfulfilled part of Zechariah 9:9 is that Jesus will return to his brethren because "he is just and having salvation" during Daniel's 70th week.  Note that when this Zechariah verse was quoted in Matthew 21:5, this phrase "he is just and having salvation" was omitted.

Christ in God will confirm the Abrahamic covenant during the Time of Jacob's Trouble with "the many" or multitude.  Isaiah says that a "remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God". (Isaiah 10:21).  Who is Mighty?  The Lord Jesus is the mighty one of Israel.  As a side note, the root of the Hebrew word for "confirm" used in Daniel 9:27 is "gebar".  This word is only used once in the Old Testament for the word "confirm".  The root means "mighty".   Who is mighty to save? (Isaiah 63:1) Whose name is Mighty God? (Isaiah 9:6)  God has a clue to his nature and name in the Hebrew verb "gebar" as used in Daniel 9:27.  It was sealed, but Paul revealed it in Romans 11:26-27)

Paul really tells us about the timing of this covenant to be confirmed in the future.   Look at Romans 11:25-27.  Following the "fullness of the Gentiles" (Romans 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) Paul says that "all Israel shall be saved" in Romans 11:26.  Paul quotes Isaiah 59:20 switching Isaiah's noun "Redeemer" (First Coming") to "Deliverer" (Second Coming). Based on this noun switch, we know that the Deliverer is associated with Daniel's week.  Then, Paul, in Romans 11:27, speaks about "my covenant" (Jehovah's) which shall take away Israel's sins.  Romans 11:27 has its counterpart in Isaiah 59:21.  The Lord, in Isaiah 59:21, speaks about "my covenant".  NOW, these events can only take during Daniel's 70th week or Daniel 9:27.  And I believe these verses in Romans 11 confirm the fact that Daniel's covenant is associated with the "confirmed covenant" you referred to in Romans 15:8.  Again, in the Hebrew context of Daniel's 70th week, the writer of the Book of Hebrews (Paul) confirms the covenant and associates it with Daniel 9:26 by reference to Melchisedec and 27 by those fleeing for refuge in Revelation 12:6. (Hebrews 6:17-20).

God deferred His promises to Israel when Jesus was rejected as Messiah.  This happened during the week preceding Passover.  We see that Daniel was keenly aware of this possibility, although in a different context. (Daniel 9:19)

I am not an expert on the Book of Revelation, but I see two - 1,260 day periods (3.5 years each) in this Book.  The first is the length of the testimony of the two witnesses. (Revelation 11:3)  I believe that this testimony would begin at the commencement of Daniel's 70th week.   The second is the length of time "remnant Israel' (the many) are driven into exile because of the persecution of the Dragon. (Revelation 12:6; Daniel 12:7)  I call this second 3.5 year period the "ministry of the Anti-Christ", matching the 3.5 year ministry of Jesus at His first coming.  Satan, as the anointed Cherub" (Ezekiel 28:14), will masquerade as the false Messiah savior of the world.  This false Christ will be received by the deceived. (John 5:43; 2 Thessalonians 2:11; Isaiah 66:4).

I believe that Daniel's 70th week is a week of years (7 years) which is yet to be fulfilled.  The first half will be fulfilled by the 3.5-year testimony of Elijah and Moses, representing the prophets and the law.  The last half will be fulfilled by the 3.5-year false ministry of the Antichrist.   This perfect seven will complete God's redemption plan for Israel (is is a Sabbath set of years) when Messiah will deliver his remnant believers. (Romans 9:27; Revelation 12:17, 14:12, 20:4-5)   He will receive them because "he is just and having salvation" for His remnant brethren.  (Romans 9:27)   Did you know that Isaiah named his son Shear-Jashub?  His name means "a remnant would return to Jehovah".   Read Isaiah 10:21-22.  It is quoted in Romans 9:27.   In both of those two verses we see Daniel 9:27 where the remnant (the many) in Jacob returns to our Mighty God, the Lord Yeshua during Daniel's week.

I have studied Daniel 9, Isaiah 59 and the related NT chapters.  My work is set out in a book:  https://www.amazon.com/Day-Thy-Visitation-Jacobs-Trouble/dp/1981076387

In that book, I speculated about the probability that these events would occur during 2019.  It seems that my speculations were too optimistic.  They were based on a 70-year hypothesis 1949-2019.  I confess that I do not know God's manner of counting the years.  But, the time is surely on our horizon.

In Christ. Greg

2 Peter 3:9-11

Note 1:   As a matter of patterns, the events of Daniel 9:26a was also based on the "oath of God".  The death and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled God's oath in Psalm 110:4 (First Coming) and 110:5 (Second Coming).  The oath of Genesis 22:16 was an oath based on Abraham's faith in God's promises by his act of obedience offering up his only son, Isaac and giving us a glimpse into the future as type of sacrificial offering up of God's only son. (Genesis 26:3)   We see the Oaths of God in Daniel 9:26 and 27 both speaking to the First and Second Advent's of Christ.   Don't you just love God's patterns of prophecy?
