"ELUL: THE KING IS IN THE FIELD"

Greetings to …

“…to all who have longed for his appearing.”

We are currently in the month of Elul on the Hebrew Calendar. I like to bring some quotes of beautiful articles about the Hebrew Month of Elul,

perhaps you already know…:

Hebrew month of Elul…… the King is in the field

We are currently in the month of Elul on the Hebrew Calendar.

My favorite thing about this month is that it is known as the month the king is in the field.  In the Bible, the king would leave his palace during the month of Elul and set up camp in the field and everyone was welcome to approach him.

Most of the year the king lived in a palace protected by guards and iron gates.   To have an audience with the king, you had to be summoned.  Should you approach without being summoned, you would die (Esther 4:11)… unless he extended the golden scepter to you and spared your life.  After the summons, there was palace protocol to learn before you could approach a king.  You had to dress correctly, speak correctly, and have proper mannerisms, your presentation had to be flawless.  Once you got to the capital, you were ushered to the palace through the many intimidating gates, corridors and antechambers that lead to the throne room.  Even the Queen of Sheba passed out when she came before King Solomon!

BUT….once a year in the month of Elul, the king would come into the field.

He would leave his palace and go out among his people.  He would set up his royal tent in the field near a town and all who wanted to see him were welcome.

The announcement was made, The King is In the Field. …”

ELUL: THE KING IS IN THE FIELD

“…A person can repent any time of year, but the days of Elul are days of special Divine mercy, so it is a time that is especially conducive to repentance and making amends: 'Seek the L-rd when He is found, call Him when He is near' (Isaiah 55:6). Elul is the time 'when He is near.' Our great sages call Elul the time when 'the King is in the field.' The analogy is to a great and powerful king who pays a surprise visit to his subjects while they are at work in their fields. For the average man, the king is so inaccessible; away in his palace, distant and removed.

He never dreams he will actually see the king, let alone speak with him. Then suddenly, one day, while this man is bent over his menial labor in the field, he feels a gentle tap on his shoulder... he turns around and to his shock, it is the great king himself who is standing over him; he has come to visit, explaining that he wanted to be close to his loyal subjects, to investigate their situation and give them the opportunity to ask for their needs. This is the true meaning of Elul... this is the time to call out to Him!….”

Elul: When the King is in the Field

“…When our King comes to the field, He communes with us in our environment and circumstances. Our circumstances become tools that are used in such a way that we are taught important lessons that we would otherwise not be able to learn; or lessons that would otherwise take much longer to learn. The purpose of these lessons is to 1) prepare us and make us ready for our encounter with our King at the wedding feast (the Biblical feast of Sukkot), 2) to bring us to repentance, and 3) to draw us closer to Him.

This is a time of introspection and fervent prayer. As we draw close to YHVH, we are to ask Him to search our lives and reveal to us the wrong in our lives. YHVH is faithful to reveal our issues to us through circumstances, through the people He has put in our lives, and through revelation in prayer. Be aware of your relationships with others during this time; YHVH may use them to “press your buttons” in order to reveal an issue in your life that needs to be made right. Once YHVH reveals the unresolved issues in our lives, we then need to do our part and make these things right.

Elul is a very trying time. But if we can persevere to the end, our reward will be great. I’m reminded of the 10 virgins. Five of the virgins were foolish and hadn’t prepared themselves to meet the Bridegroom. But the other 5 had prepared and made themselves ready. Their reward was joining the Bridegroom at the wedding feast (Sukkot)….”

Elul – The Love-Song Month of Preparation!

“We are once again in the wonderful Hebrew Month of ELUL. The unique 29-day period of time each year dedicated to reflecting, and renewing our love relationship with King Jesus.

In Jewish tradition, Elul is the month of the Love Song:

“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” (Song of Solomon 6:3).

Elul is the time when the Jewish people liken God to a King who leaves His royal palace and comes into the field in order to meet with His people – to hear their hearts, and answer their petitions.

It is believed that Elul is the time of year – God Himself – is closer than any other time. This is the month to ask the King of Kings for everything you need! …”
