Hello John and Doves,
I have wondered about
this particular topic before...why were there soooo many
demons to cast out of the people during Jesus' day
compared to today?
Jesus went through the
'whole of Galilee healing and casting out demons'.
All through the New Testament there are stories of Jesus
healing people and casting out demons. And, also, of
His disciples doing the same. Seems every village
they went to there were folks needing an exorcism.
Surely the demons are
just as active, just as ruthless today as during Jesus'
time. I believe that the reason we don't hear much
about 'demon possession' is that we don't see it as 'demon
possession'. It's classified as some sort of 'mental
illness'.
I've begin to wonder
if what we are seeing today around us isn't some sort of
demon possession - the hate, the anger, the inability to
think rationally, the total disregard of the feelings and
beliefs of others, the lack of self control, the extreme
anti-Christianity, the disrespect of property and personal
rights, the violent acts, the extreme use of "F U"
and other profanities.
Add this to what is
happening in Christian churches across America - gay
marriage, support of abortion, gay ministers, etc and NO
voice speaking up against the attack on Christian morals
and Christian religious rights in this country.
All of these things
seem to be at a fever pitch these days!
What's happening today
really seems to be exactly what Paul wrote about in 2
Timothy 3 for The Last Days! It really is
shocking! And it's not letting up.
2 Timothy 3:
1-4: "Remember that there will be difficult times in
the last days. People will be selfish, greedy,
boastful, and conceited; they will be insulting,
disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, and irreligious;
they will be unkind, merciless, slanderers, violent, and
fierce; they will hate the good; they will be treacherous,
reckless, and swollen with pride; they will love pleasure
rather than God; they will hold to the outward form of our
religion, but reject its real power."
There are several
verses that mention that these demons KNEW who Jesus
was! Jesus would not permit them to speak and tell
the people that He was the Son of God.
Here is one example:
"While teaching in a
synagogue in Capernaum, Jesus was interrupted by a man
possessed by a demon. He cried out, "What have you
to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to
destroy us? I know who you are - the Holy One of
God!" Jesus ordered the spirit to be quiet and to
come out of the man..."

And then there is the
possessed slave girl who could tell fortunes - she must
have been very good at this as she made her masters much
money:
"Once when we were
going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female
slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the
future. She earned a great deal of money for her
owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the
rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most
High God, who are telling you the way to be saved."
She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became
so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit,
"In the name of Jesus Christ I comment you to come out of
her!" At that moment the spirit left her."
Demons obviously know
things! I wonder if they know that 'satan's time is
short - that he doesn't have much time before G-d ends his
reign of terror on earth. I wonder if they know that
Jesus is coming back?
I came across this
story in the news the other day:
What caught my
attention was WHAT this man was yelling. And I would
say this man was possessed by a demon.
"Lewisville, TX - A
man is accused of fatally stabbing and beating his
16-month-old son before a neighbor at his Lewisville
apartment complex attempted to stop the attack by shooting
him in the leg, police said Sunday.
During the attack, the
father was yelling "Jesus is coming", a witness
told police."
Does this demon know
something?
