"Did you know these things about the New Jerusalem?"

The New Jerusalem is certainly big!  Approximately 1,500 miles wide, long and tall.  Considering the height, it is important to remember that the edge of outer space begins at just 62 miles above average sea level.  If the New Jerusalem came down and sat on the old earth (which it won't) most of it would be in airless space.  Today our low orbit satellites are about 1,240 miles high.  Not much gravity up there!  Pretty cold out there in space too.

If the New Jerusalem sat on the old earth it would cause major destruction.  Its' mass would cause the earth and moon to shift in their orbits and likely cause major earthquakes.  Think about the weight.  It would be enormous!  All that gold and precious stones as building materials!  According to one website puny little Los Angeles weighs an estimated 26 trillion tons.  That's with ordinary materials.

During the millennium, the New Jerusalem will hover in space.  It won't come down to the planet earth until the old heavens and earth are recreated and made suitable for the New Jerusalem.  Who knows, maybe the sky will stretch far enough to cover the top of the New Jerusalem!  Maybe the new earth will be far larger.

Forgive me for all this wild speculation.  I just like to think about these sorts of things.  It is comforting to me that soon we won't have to speculate.  We will see and know!

Looking up and smiling.
