The new moon has been sighted in the Land of Israel! August 8, 2013 at sunset begins the sixth Biblical month!

David Cachicas sighted it over the top of the walls of Jerusalem, 19:37 Hrs (7:37) along with other passing witnesses.

Down by the side of Jaffa Gate, Arie Levi sighted it at 19:46 Hrs (7:46) and other witnesses.

Nehemia Gordon stated: "We've never had a confirmed sighting from Israel with less than 40 minutes lagtime (the time between sunset and moonset). That makes this sighting with 38 minute lagtime a record for Israel! At 3.25% illumination the moon was huge, so that explains this otherwise difficult sighting. High illumination with low lagtime is relatively rare. Congrats Yoel Halevi, David Cachicas, and Arieh ???"
