"MONOTEISM"
THE UNIQUE BEARER OF MONOTHEISM
The only people that ever brought into existence the notion of a
One, eternal God, the Creator of heaven and earth, is the Hebrew
or Jewish people. No true monotheism exists outside of their
teachings and revelations. Both the Old Testament (Tanach) and
the New Testament, affirming this belief in One eternal God and
Father of mankind, were written by Hebrew or Jewish people. So
it is true - the Apostle Paul's statement - that "to them were
committed the oracles of God" (Romans 3:2).
This is an overlooked yet astonishing realization: that no true
Monotheism exists outside of the Jewish scriptures - Tanach and
New Testament!
In his excellent and well documented book 'Islamic Invasion',
Dr. Robert Morey posits that, in pre-Islamic times, 'Al ilah' -
later contracted to Allah - was already worshipped by the Arab
nomads as one of a pantheon of deities. The fact that Mohammed's
father was already called Abd-allah is only one of the many
proofs the author brings to show this. Allah was the moon god
and had three daughters, Allat, al-Uzzat and AlManat. Further
evidence he brings from known Islamic scholars, some of their
observations I quote hereby:
"The Arabs, before the time of Mohammed, accepted and
worshipped, after a fashion, a supreme god called allah"
(Encyclopedia of Islam, ed. Houtsma).
"Allah was known to the pre-Islamic Arabs; he was one of the
Meccan deities" (Encyclopedia of Islam, ed. Gibb).
"Ilah ... appears in pre-Islamic poetry ... By frequency of
usage,al-ilah was contracted to allah, frequently attested to in
pre-Islamic poetry" (Encyclopedia of Islam, ed. Lewis).
"The origin of this (Allah) goes back to pre-Muslim times.
Allahis not a common name meaning "God" (or a "god"), and the
Muslim must use another word or form if he wishes to indicate
any other than his own peculiar deity" (Encyclopedia of Religion
and Ethics).
Hinduism with its many gods, Buddhism - more a philosophy of
lifestyle - and many of the lesser known religions, cannot be
said to teach as the Bible does, that there is One eternal God,
Creator of heaven and earth - who chose not only one people, the
people of Israel to reveal Himself to mankind, but is willing to
be known throughout the ages as the God of Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob or simply as the God of Israel!
That both the Old and New Testaments refer to God in a
pluralistic sense, Let us make man ... and the Hebrew name for
God is Elohim (plural) and the New Testament clearly states that
the One true God and Father of us all has an only begotten Son -
there is no doubt that both Old and New Testaments firmly affirm
that there is only One eternal God.
Moreover He said, "I am the God of your father--the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid
his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. And God said to
Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the
children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' " Moreover God
said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel:
'The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name
forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.' Go and
gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, 'The Lord
God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob,
appeared to me, saying, "I have surely visited you and seen what
is done to you in Egypt." Then they will heed your voice; and
you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of
Egypt; and you shall say to him, 'The Lord God of the Hebrews
has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days' journey
into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.'
(Exodus 3: 6, 14-16, 18)
For many of today's philosophers and religious teachers, and
even many theologians, this may all be very offensive to their
universalistic beliefs that would like to do away with God's
specific bond with His people, and far more stress the aspect of
'God of all mankind.'
But the truth that God is the God of the universe, and of all
that lives and exists, cannot and does not refute or in any way
detract from this truth: that He has chosen to reveal Himself to
and through just One People - His people - the people of Israel.
Today's near unanimous assault by globalists and universalists
on this Judeo-Christian heritage - the belief in ONE God,
Creator of us all - is becoming increasingly vicious, and does
indeed set the stage for an all-out attack on the God Jews and
Christians love and worship. This is already seen in so-called
Christian countries like the United States, where the public
display of the Ten Commandments and of other expressions of
faith is being attacked or forbidden. 'You will be hated by all
for My Name sake,' Jesus once said. And today's world is racing
towards all-out confrontation and rebellion against the God who
gave us life. A fair description of what is happening in our
world can be found in Romans 1:18-32:
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth
in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest
in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of
the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power
and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although
they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were
thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish
hearts were darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory
of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible
man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of
their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who
exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served
the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.
Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For
even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against
nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the
woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men
committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the
penalty of their error which was due.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,
God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which
are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual
immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of
envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are
whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters,
inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning,
untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing
the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such
things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also
approve of those who practice them.
