Dear Doves,
The following is information about Moses and Av 30 from Jewish History. In days of old of Moses and Aaron on an Av 30, Moses ASCENDED Mt. Sinai for the 3rd time. He took the 2 stone tablets he had cut, in preparation for the divine writing there of the words of the 10 Statements, of the ketubah. For 40 days Moses was mediator for the people of The House of Israel, to intercede for forgiveness. He DESCENDED on Tishri 10, on Yom Kippur after 40 days of Teshuvah. The tablets of the Mosaic Covenant, the ketubah, had been smashed 42 days earlier with the Golden Calf Debacle. This year the Last Day of Av is from beginning to ending of the Shabbat, at the New Moon ( Rosh Chodesh) from 8-17 to 18.
Who might the Two Witnesses be? Most agree about Elijah being one of them, the representative of the Prophets. Might Moses be the other? He would represent the Law, Mosaic Covenant, and Torah (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). Who is the perfection in obedience of the law and the last and greatest of all the prophets? The Messiah/Christ is the undisputed answer in The Scriptures. Moses and Elijah were the special guests seen in glory with The Messiah/Christ at THE TRANSFIGURATION. This year, The Feast of the Transfiguration was 8-6. For all the world this was 8-6 and 7. The date 10 days later will be Av 30, The beginning of the last day of Av, The Last Day before the transitional period of 30 days from Elul 1 to The Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) and 40 days from Elul 1 to The Solemn Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur).
In a recent book by Skip Heitzid from Harvest House, You Can Understand the Book of Revelation, he explains reasons why he believes these will be the Two Witnesses. The following is from page 122. "Who are these two witnesses? Most likely they are none other than Moses and Elijah come back to earth. There are four reasons for thinking so. First, notice their works. They destroy their enemies by calling down fire from heaven, as Elijah did (2 Kings 1:10-12). They call for drought, as Elijah did (1 Kings 17:1). And they have the power to turn water into blood and to strike the earth with various plagues, as Moses did (Exodus 7:15-12:32)." He also notes precedent since Moses and Elijah have already appeared together at The Transfiguration! Each left this world in unusual ways. Elijah did not die but ascended in a chariot of fire. Skip noted the following on page 123. "And although Moses died, God Himself had him buried in an unknown grave; and apparently Michael the archangel and the devil has an argument about Moses' body (Jude 9). Why all the argument over a corpse unless God wanted to retain that body for His own purposes in the future?" Skip then asks fine questions. "And ponder this: What two men would have more of an impact on the Jewish nation than Moses, who represents the Law, and Elijah, recognized as the greatest prophet? These two men are the embodiment of the Law and the Prophets. Who better to herald the coming of the King?"
The period of TESHUVAH is very important each year for observant members of The House of Israel as Av ends, Elul 1 begins going toward 30 days later at Rosh Hashanah and then ten days of The Days of Awe until Yom Kippur. Might the Dispensation of The Age of Grace (the Age of Pentecost), the "fullness of the Gentiles", be ending a day before us in 2012 between Av 30 and Tishri 10? This is a period of consequence each year for the Jews! A SPIRITUAL SPOTLIGHT IS ON MOSES from Av 30 until Yom Kippur in Jewish History! Will the resumed Age of Mosaic Law begin soon? We shall see. May we be WATCHING each day for the arrival in majesty in His eternal glory, of The Captain of Our Souls, greater than Moses or Elijah!
With Love and Shalom,
Jean
